In the days ahead the premiere of my symphonic poem ‘Der Hirschsprung’, I got in touch with Mihai Corodan, Tubist for the concert. We had a couple of brief chats in which he signaled great interest in premiering a more chamber’esque work from me.  

I love writing for brass as its very nature resembles a lot with my more rhythmic understanding of music. The moment I started working on the new piece the ideas just poured out of me, the whole process was such a fun and unique experience.

Brass Quintet No. 1 is a throwback to my childhood where every movement describes a strong and distinct memory that I still cherish to this day and age. It's a photograph of years long gone.
