I'm excited to announce the launch of my new video series, Scoredive! This series is all about peeling back the layers of orchestral composition and discovering the curious, unexpected, and sometimes puzzling elements that live beneath the surface of the music we hear.
What is Scoredive
In each episode of Scoredive, we'll examine specific sections of my compositions, diving into the conductor score to uncover the technical decisions, creative challenges, and hidden complexities that shape the final musical experience. Think of it as a behind-the-scenes look at how the music actually works. I wanted to create this series to portray exciting intricacies for those who don't really understand how music works – making the concepts visually understandable so that even if you don't fully grasp what's happening technically, you can still visualize the problem at hand.
Episode 1: The Ignition - When Two Rhythms Become One
The first episode focuses on a deceptively complex section from "The Ignition," the opening track of my upcoming EP "Hide and Seek." What sounds like a straightforward, soaring string theme actually contains a rather challenging little time signature puzzle that keeps the performers on guard.
In this episode, we explore how I've layered different time signatures to create a fascinating tension. It's the kind of compositional decision that's invisible to the casual listener but presents an unusual challenge for the musicians bringing it to life.
Why Scoredive?
Too often, we experience orchestral music as this seamless, magical thing that just "happens." But every beautiful moment is the result of countless small decisions, technical challenges overcome, and creative problems solved. Scoredive is my way of sharing those discoveries with fellow music lovers, composers, and anyone curious about the craft behind the art.
Each episode will reveal different aspects of musical composition – sometimes it's rhythmic complexity like in "The Ignition," other times it might be unusual orchestration choices, harmonic surprises, or structural innovations that create specific emotional effects.
What's Next?
This is just the beginning. Throughout the series, we'll explore various pieces from my catalog, each offering its own unique insights into the compositional process, there's always something curious waiting to be discovered in the score. Whether you're a musician, composer, or simply someone who loves getting lost in the details of how things work, Scoredive offers a way to experience orchestral music – from the inside out.
